Before Kukuczka, Rutkiewicz, and Wielicki conquered the eight-thousanders, there was someone who first dared to dream of it—and wrote to them. Letter to the Future is a cinematic journey tracing the footsteps of Adam Karpiński—a man who loved the sky, the mountains, and a woman—composed of passion, the silence of snow, and archival materials.

The documentary film "Letter to the Future", directed by Małgorzata Świderska, tells the story of AKAR—Adam Karpiński—a pre-war engineer, aircraft designer, and a pioneer of Polish Himalayan mountaineering. An exceptional figure, deserving to be called a “Renaissance man,” yet today somewhat forgotten.

We plan to produce a feature-length documentary intended for theatrical distribution, as well as television broadcast and streaming platforms, and for presentation at film festivals, reviews, and competitions.

The main narrative framework of the film will be built around a fictional titular letter (based on the protagonist’s own words, views, and writings), portraying Adam Karpiński as a man of “flesh and blood.” The director plans to use archival film materials from the 1920s and 1930s—both those documenting the protagonist’s life and mountain expeditions, and found-footage materials which, through creative editing, will help construct a credible portrait of the era. The film will be complemented by staged scenes, including sequences generated using artificial intelligence, depicting key moments in the hero’s life, as well as interviews with renowned experts in Himalayan mountaineering, aviation, and history.

Both the protagonist and the artistic concept of the film, together with the director’s personality and experience, guarantee the creation of an ambitious, inspiring, and engaging documentary.
